A new planning application has been submitted for a retail-led regeneration scheme in the centre of Newport in South Wales.
The application for full planning permission submitted to Newport City Council by developer Queensberry Real Estate for the Friars Walk scheme includes provision for a 32,000sq metres of retail space, eight restaurants and a six-screen cinema.
The proposals also include a reconfiguration of the existing John Frost Square, a new plaza, and a new bus station.
A previous scheme to develop the site collapsed last year after the subsidiary of developer Modus that was due to carry out the redevelopment went into administration.
Graeme Tulley, planning director at GL Hearn, planning consultants on the new proposed scheme, said Newport City Council had already compulsory purchased the land and the developers were "hopeful of consent".
It is anticipated that, subject to permission being granted, work will begin on site in early 2013 with a view to work being completed in 2015.
