QUEENSBERRY ANNOUNCES RAFT OF NEW SIGNINGS FOR THE KINGSWAY CENTRE, NEWPORT

Queensberry has announced three new names to open at the Kingsway Centre, Newport. The Principality Building Society, Celebrations and Glamour Forever have all been confirmed to take units at the Newport retail destination.

The Principality Building Society is taking a c.1,700 sq ft unit and will be located next to Starbucks fronting John Frost Square on a 15 year lease. The Principality Building Society is a Welsh building society based in Cardiff and with assets of £8bn, it is the largest building society in Wales and the sixth largest in the United Kingdom.

Celebrations has signed to take 1,100 sq ft on a 10 year lease. Celebrations is a card retailer with a great range of unique cards, gifts and personalised products for all occasions.

Glamour Forever will take a 600 sq ft unit. Glamour Forever was founded in 2007 and is a walk-in, pain-free brow service.  Glamour Forever now has over 23 walk in kiosks in the UK and is still growing, it has agreed to a 10 year lease term.

Daniel Mead, Asset Management Director for Queensberry, who own the asset alongside Bywater Properties, and also asset manage the centre said:

“Footfall at the Kingsway is on the increase and since Queensberry acquired the centre in 2014, figures have been up by 20 per cent.This has been further accentuated with the opening of Friars Walk, with numbers rising by a further 10 per cent. The Kingsway Centre comprises established, affordable brands and we will continue to target operators to complement the current and surrounding offer.”

Robert Palmer, associate director in the retail team at Savills, Bristol said:

“The Kingsway Shopping Centre provides an excellent trading opportunity in the heart of Newport’s retail offering. The addition of Glamour Forever and Celebrations aligns with the landlord’s strategy to diversify the retail offering and provide the services that our shoppers are seeking, evidenced by increasing footfall through the scheme.”

Julie-Ann Haines, Customer Director at Principality, said:

“We are excited to be relocating our Newport branch to the heart of this new development and hope to be opening our doors to members in January 2018. Following colleague and customer research we're designing a branch with a new approach to see what our members think. It will be focused on creating strong relationships, having quality conversations and enhancing the personal service that our customers love. We want our branches to be a home from home. ”

Savills, Bristol is appointed as the leasing agent for the Kingsway Centre.

The Kingsway Centre is anchored by Wilkinsons, B&M and Peacocks and is located immediately adjacent to Queensberry’s Friars Walk shopping and leisure destination. Since  Queensberry acquired the scheme in autumn 2014 they have let units to Sainsbury’s Local, The Post Office, Warren James, Pep and Co, Euro Change, That’s Entertainment, The Fragrance Store, Starbucks, Bon Marche and Pure Gym. Footfall has increased by over 20per cent since 2014 and is up by over 10 per cent compared to this time last year.
